IG’s KTP Associate Emanuele Scarabino shortlisted for Engineering Excellence Award at the KTP Awards

ktp awards finalist IG Masonry Support Emanuele Scarabino

Emanuele Scarabino KTP Associate at IG Masonry Support has been announced as a finalist in the Engineering Excellence category at the KTP Awards. The KTP initiative in partnership with Queens University Belfast has saw Emanuele develop a ground- breaking design of a calculation suite for designing masonry support systems helping IG Masonry Support to increase productivity with a strong focus on product quality.

Over the last 45 years, Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) have been helping organisations in all sectors right across the UK to realise innovation by partnering them with the UK’s world-class academic institutions, creating dynamic teams where the freshest thinking and deepest expertise are transferred and embedded to solve real-world innovation challenges. The KTP Best of the Best Awards celebrate the most outstanding impacts resulting from these unique collaborative partnerships.

KTP Associate, Emanuele Scarabino working in a KTP with IG Masonry Support and Queen’s University Belfast, has helped create a bespoke mathematical model capable of designing masonry support façade systems delivering predicted deflections within 0.1mm with 98% confidence. This incredible accuracy pushed the project beyond any expectations set out in the original plan; the ability to predict physical behaviour with such accuracy has transformed product design with material savings and remarkable improvements in efficiency. The mathematical model created via this KTP delivers the output of 9000 man hours in sixty seconds and eliminates human error.

Paul Graham General Manager at IG Masonry Support Ireland commented “At IG Masonry Support, our incredibly talented team and our passion for innovation are key to our success. We are continuously investing in research and development to provide our customers with unique and innovative solutions to meet their needs. Emanuele has been instrumental in the development of a calculation suite that has led to incredible improvements in efficiency. We are delighted his achievements and dedication have been recognised by these prestigious awards.”

The virtual awards ceremony takes place 9th September 4-5pm.
