IG Masonry Support’s Thermal A1 Rated Shim is designed to minimise heat loss through cold bridging, improving energy efficiency of the project whilst eliminating bi-metallic corrosion within the Masonry Support System.
Thermal bridging occurs typically where there is either a break in the insulation, less insulation or the insulation is penetrated by an element with a higher thermal conductivity. Where the building is situated in a cold climate (such as the UK) this can result in additional heat loss at these points.
This type of shim is provided as standard with IG Masonry Support Systems, is 2mm thick and isolates the masonry support bracket from the support structure.
The collective number of shims should never exceed three. The maximum allowable thickness of shims used should be no more than the outside diameter of the fixing bolt or 12mm, whichever is less.
