In line with the Science Based Targets Initiative, we are taking proactive steps to decarbonise business operations, upgrade onsite utilities, reduce overall consumption, as well as wastage on site. As we continue to explore alternative, more efficient and less impactful ways to operate at IG Masonry Support, we are only accelerating on our journey.

This section of our website details our journey and key milestones so far, and our plans for a sustainable future:

IG Masonry Support Sustainability Journey Timeline

2013
2013

Environmental Management System (EMS) obtained: This is an internationally recognised standard that sets out the requirements for an environmental management system. It helps organisations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and waste reduction.

2016
2016

IG Masonry Support becomes Supply Chain Sustainability School Members: Providing employees with access to thousands of online learning resources surrounding various sustainability, offsite, digital, procurement, lean and management topics relevant to the built environment.

The Keystone Group implements Corporate Social Responsibility & Environmental Policies:

2017
2017

Bulk purchasing of materials: IG Masonry Support begins bulk purchasing of manufacturing products to reduce amount of deliveries to site.

LED smart lighting upgrade: Swadlincote offices and factory benefit from LED smart lighting upgrade. LED’s are reported to be six times more energy efficient than incandescent lighting.

2018
2018

Switch to 85% recycled stainless steel for manufacturing of products: In theory, stainless steel is 100% recyclable. The primary alloy elements of stainless steel, which include chromium, nickel, and molybdenum are all extremely valuable and can be recovered easily when recycling stainless steel. What’s more, extracting these elements doesn’t affect the finished product.

Upgraded recycling and waste facilities within Swadlincote site: IG Masonry Support declare zero waste to landfill and the recycling of all manufacturing materials.

2019
2019

Upgraded delivery vehicle fleet to Euro 6 engines: Euro 6 is the latest standard that all new engines must be compliant with. It is particularly targeting nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by forcing vehicle makers to reduce NOx output by more than 55% from Euro 5 standards.

Upgraded all Swadlincote forklift trucks to electricity-operated systems: CO2 emissions are reduced and ultimately improves air quality.

2020
2020

Scope 1 and 2 emissions assessment completed: Scope 1 emissions are direct greenhouse (GHG) emissions that occur from sources that are controlled or owned by an organization (e.g., emissions associated with fuel combustion in boilers, furnaces, vehicles). Scope 2 emissions are indirect GHG emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling. Read more>>

Laser cutting facilities upgraded: Purchase of new fibre laser cutting machine for Swadlincote factory which, in comparison to traditional laser cutting methods, such as CO2 laser cutting, provides exact precision meaning the entire process is quicker, uses less energy, and reduces material waste.

Removal of energy-intensive plasma cutting system: This system produced excess fumes and required and electrodes can be expensive to source.

Carbon Neutral certification received for B.O.S.S. A1:  B.O.S.S. A1 becomes IG’s first Carbon Neutral product by offsetting carbon emissions through certified carbon offset projects.  Read more>>

2021
2021

IG Masonry Support becomes a Carbon Neutral manufacturer: IG Masonry Support leads the way in the Keystone Group, becoming the first company within the group as well as its sector to achieve carbon neutral status.

Science Based Targets Initiative signed (SBTi): The Science Based Targets Initiative defines and promotes best practice in emissions reductions and net-zero targets in line with climate science.

Switched to renewable electricity tariff: At both sites in Swadlincote and Overseal to support a lower cost of capital and careful use of the distribution system to deliver lower-cost, renewable energy.

Upgrade to biodegradable packaging: Switch to biodegradable packaging for products which ultimately reduces the amount of wasted materials and consumption of resources.

Scope 3 emissions assessment: These emissions are the result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organisation, but that the organisation indirectly impacts in its value chain.
