Boclair Academy

The Boclair Academy in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, is a state-of-the-art secondary school serving over 1,000 pupils. Designed by Ryder Architecture and delivered through the SCAPE Construction Framework by Wates Construction and McLaughlin & Harvey, the £40.9 million School offers 11,221 sqm of flexible, future-ready learning environments arranged around key educational plazas.

Overview

Boclair Academy was designed by Ryder Architecture to compliment its semi rural landscape by adopting a low, ground hugging form.

Lesterose Scotland Ltd commissioned IG Masonry Support to design and manufacture a range of precision-engineered masonry support and brick slip solutions tailored to the unique requirements of the new school.

Leveraging our B.O.S.S.® (Brick on Soffit System) technology, we created a 665mm flying beam above the stairway at the entrance courtyard, which was simultaneously bolted to our Welded Masonry Support systems. Featuring a stretcher bond pattern and a 65mm face soffit, the beam adds striking visual impact and serves as a welcoming focal point for the building.

B.O.S.S.® units were also used in other areas of the building, particularly for openings wider than 3.6 metres. These installations continued the stretcher bond pattern and incorporated varying soffit depths to maintain architectural consistency.

Across other sections of the façade, Brick Slip Lintels were strategically installed to create crisp, clean brick detailing around smaller window and soffit areas, including the dining terrace colonnade. Our in-house Brick Cutting Service provided precision-cut components to integrate seamlessly with these systems, ensuring visual consistency and reducing onsite installation time.
