IG Masonry Support was the chosen supplier of masonry support and brick slip systems for a new part 5 and part 6-storey classroom block situated on Temple Street and Graham Court.

Designed by Moloney O’ Beirne Architects and built by main contractor Clancy Construction, the building design features a punched opefenestration pattern, aiming to provide an ‘understated and minimal’ expression while providing a strong city block corner.

The architect stated that “careful consideration was given to the rhythm of windows on both city elevations where the minimum number of openings were chosen to add to the restrained design, each classroom has three windows with one window to the corridor.”

IG Masonry Support supplied Welded Masonry Support Dropper Systems to suit varying cavity sizes between 110mm and 150mm and to fix to a concrete structure.

B.O.S.S. (Brick on Soffit Systems) units were used above a large proportion of window heads on each elevation. B.O.S.S. units were chosen over Brick Slip Lintels for these openings to achieve a simpler and quicker installation process with the units being bolted directly to the Welded Masonry Support already installed. B.O.S.S. units were also used on the ground level to achieve a three brick soffit above the opening to the basement car park.

Brick Slip Lintels were used on a few smaller openings on the south elevation to suit a stretcher course bond pattern with a 65mm face height and a 215mm soffit return unit.

One A1 fire-rated Brick Slip Soffit Panel was supplied for a large soffit area on level 1 of the building. The panel was designed to suit a stretcher course bond pattern with a 102.5mm face width and 215mm face depth.
