Labelled ‘The World’s Smartest Building’, it was the first in the UK to be built using the B-Grid Smart Building System. The system is a leading-edge solution for smart buildings and collects data including occupancy, energy usage, fresh air and carbon emissions to provide actionable insights to help owners improve the operation of their buildings.
Designed by SPPARC, the building boasts distinctive design elements including a curved wall at the entrance made of glass bricks and uniquely crafted Italian bricks with a special curve.
IG Masonry Support supplied a package of masonry support and brick slip systems to main contractor HG Construction. A total of 901.1 metres of Welded Masonry Support systems in standard, dropper and inverted variations were designed and manufactured to suit the requirements of the 1st – 5th floors of the build. A total of 860.1 metres of our Cast-in Channel was also supplied to which our masonry support systems were affixed to.
Lastly, we designed and manufactured 102.3 metres of our B.O.S.S. (Brick on Soffit System) and Brick Slip Lintels for the 1st – 6th floors of the build to suit a stretcher course bond pattern.
Due to the curved design elements present throughout the building’s façade, careful planning and execution were required to ensure our masonry support and brick slip systems could be installed seamlessly, blending with the surrounding traditional brickwork.
The ground-breaking scheme is the first building in the UK to achieve the Platinum Smart Building Certification. It was also named the world’s smartest building at the 2021 Futureproof Awards (People’s Choice category), recognised for its use of data to create the best possible user environment.
