Completed in December 2022, the impressive project required a complex system of custom Masonry Support Systems to ensure the safety of the structure whilst also adhering to the Architect Tyndall Architecture and Design’s aesthetic vision. IG Masonry Support were entrusted to design and fabricate Masonry Support Systems, Brick Slip Lintels and Brick Soffit Systems for the Ground, 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th and 5^th floor openings of the seven-storey new build.

IG Masonry Support was tasked with creating custom designs to ensure the building’s unique architecture was realised to its full potential. Brickwork Contractor Monami Construction chose IG Masonry Support as its supplier due to its unparalleled ability to provide systems suitable for the large cavities presented in the project.

The team encountered a hurdle when the Architect’s design called for downpipes to be incorporated into the front façade, where the Masonry Support Systems needed to be installed. This presented a challenge as the cavities were of considerable size, and the design also had to incorporate other crucial building features, meaning bespoke solutions had to be devised to overcome these challenges.

IG Masonry Support successfully provided its clients with a one-stop shop for masonry support and brick products, adhering to short lead times and saving up to 90% of install time in comparison to traditional bricklaying.

The team provided bespoke solutions to overcome several challenges, including a Folded Angle Masonry Support System designed with a recess that seamlessly incorporated the downpipes. Additionally, top hats were manufactured to overcome the size of the cavities and enable the Folded Angle Masonry Support to fix to.

Brick Slip Lintels were employed for window openings in which the design and manufacture remained fairly consistent due to the repetitive nature of the chosen window design and straightforward brickwork bond pattern. Brick on Soffit Systems were also designed and manufactured to sit above the ground floor entrance, providing a sturdy, attractive gateway to the hotel. These systems also had to consider the downpipes which feature in four areas of the front façade. For IG Masonry Support, this meant designing the B.O.S.S. with a soldier brickwork bond pattern which would blend seamlessly into the traditional brickwork on the two courses above and surrounding the downpipes.

IG Masonry Support’s in-house engineers provided full technical support throughout the build enabling the brickwork contractor to achieve the final aesthetic vision of the architects successfully.
