Central Middlesex Hospital

This development combines new affordable homes with the refurbishment of the historic 1908 Old Refectory, a surviving remnant of the former Victorian workhouse. The restored building will provide flexible community and workplace space, preserving local heritage while supporting modern needs.

The scheme incorporates a variety of building types with simple access arrangements and clean brick façades, supported by exposed structural elements that sit comfortably within the wider regeneration area.

IG Masonry Support was appointed to deliver the full façade masonry support package across Blocks A, B, C, and E. Our team engineered solutions to suit the project’s varying cavity widths, changing slab conditions, and multi-storey elevations. In total, 1107.5 metres of Welded Masonry Support systems were designed and manufactured to meet the unique requirements of each block.

The package also included 1152.9 metres of Cast-in Channel for 378 locations, which allowed for seamless installation of the masonry support systems.

IG Masonry Support also cut 6087 stretcher pistol bricks to interface with the supplied masonry support systems.

Additional lateral stability was provided through U-shaped Windposts, installed across all blocks – three each in Blocks A, B, C, and D. These included head and base fixings designed to anchor directly into concrete.

By supplying engineered masonry support, integrated channels, windposts and brick cutting, IG Masonry Support ensured consistent structural performance and precise brick alignment across every façade. These systems supported efficient installation while achieving the high-quality architectural finish required for this significant affordable housing development.
