Completed in 2022, Birmingham’s 121-year-old Belmont Works factory has been completely renovated, with the addition of a new-build extension including a full height water tower. The building has been refurbished and fully-furnished with a range of production equipment, technology expertise, masterclasses and workshops. It is now fit-for-use by innovators interested in a new collaborative community for businesses to make their entrepreneurial ideas a reality. The development has been shortlisted for 2022 RICS Awards for the West Midlands region and is currently rated BREEAM ‘Excellent’.
The refurbishment was part of three initial projects that IG Masonry Support assisted the brickwork contractor, Phoenix Brickwork, with. IG Masonry Support was chosen for the project as they were able to supply the relevant products. Additionally, Phoenix Brickwork required a supplier that was able to collect the project brickwork, and prefabricate the product offsite, before redelivering it as a final product back to site.
The brickwork contractor also required IGMS to bespoke design and supply brick slip lintels and arch lintels for the north, south, east and west elevations of the building, as well as a rowlock course bond pattern on the arches.
Despite tight project timescales and challenging design requirements, IG Masonry Support overcame these hurdles on account of its time management skills, technical proficiency, and dedicated customer service, ensuring that project requirements were fulfilled on time.
