Shims

IG Shims are used to accommodate small increases in cavity widths and preventing thermal transfer.

Shims

IG Masonry Support manufactures three types of Shims that can be placed between the masonry support bracket and the support structure.

  • Thermal Shims – to prevent thermal transfer
  • Stainless Steel Shims – to adjust for small increases in cavity widths
  • Nylon Shims – to accommodate a small increase in cavity widths

Shims of varying thicknesses ranging from 5/64” to 1/4”are available, and a standard 5/64” Thermal Shim is included with each bracket supplied.

Thermal Shims

IG Thermal Shims are designed to minimize heat loss through cold bridging, improving energy efficiency of the building while eliminating bi-metallic corrosion within the masonry support system.

Thermal bridging is typically observed where there is a break in the insulation, less insulation, or the insulation is penetrated by an element with a higher thermal conductivity. In cold climates, this can lead to additional heat loss at these points.

This type of Shim is included as standard with IG’s masonry support systems, is 5/64” thick, and serves to isolate the masonry support bracket from the support structure.

Stainless Steel Shims

IG Stainless Steel Shims are manufactured using grade 304 stainless steel and are designed to accommodate small increases in cavity widths.

These Shims are inserted between the Thermal Shim and IG’s masonry support brackets and are available in thicknesses of 3mm, 5/32”, 5mm, and 1/4”.

Nylon Shims

IG Nylon Shims are manufactured from Nylon 66 GF 30 and are designed to accommodate small increases in cavity widths.

1/4” thick and designed to be inserted between the support structure and IG’s masonry support brackets to accommodate a small increase in cavity width.
